OK AIM

Ensuring a high quality of life

The program is Oklahoma Advocates Involved in Monitoring, but it is better known as OK AIM.
It is the independent component of the system created by the State of Oklahoma to ensure that people with developmental disabilities live quality lives and receive the best possible community-based residential services.

OK AIM volunteers make the program work. Volunteers give their time as monitors because they believe the people who live in community-based residences funded by the state for individuals with developmental disabilities should be empowered to make their own choices. All OK AIM volunteers receive assistance from OK AIM field coordinators, who are based in Ada, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Making monitoring visits give volunteers the opportunities to observe the quality of life inside a residence, then report those findings to OK AIM staff. During a home visit, a team of two volunteer monitors will evaluate four distinct areas:

  1. Regard for the Individual
  2. Personal Growth
  3. Staff
  4. Physical Setting

WBlakeritten responses are sent to volunteers so they know when unsatisfactory items they may have reported are corrected, improved, or changed. This feedback contributes to the survey finding that 95 percent of all OK AIM volunteers believe their visits result in real differences in the lives of the people they monitor.

Individuals with developmental disabilities, members of their families, and interested Oklahomans are welcome and encouraged to enroll as OK AIM volunteers. Volunteers receive training and materials that prepare them to make monitoring visits.

Volunteers are needed in all parts of the state to make monitoring visits.
